Match reports - 2006/7

CENTRAL  4  HONITON  0

This was Central's first game at home this season and they started very well putting Honiton under pressure straight away, they were rewarded when Olli Cotterill chested the ball down in the penalty box and thumped the ball in to go 1-0 up

They could have gone two up but Luke Henderson's goal was ruled off-side.

In the second half Honiton pushed forward and were rewarded when they won a penalty, but Dan Tutchings was in no mood to let anything pass him and pulled off a superb save. This woke Central up and they started to play some excellent football passing the ball around. Substitute Dan Knightley found himself on the edge of the box and a shot come pass found its way to un-marked Eric Spink to score his second of the season and Central's second of the match

And 5 minutes later central added a third when Eric received the ball on the left and put in a delightful chip for Josh Barlow to score his first goal for his new side.

Olli Cotterill scored his second of the match to complete a superb performance from all the team

PHOENIX  0  CENTRAL  2

On a bright sunny day, Central played their best football of the season so far, passing and running into space well. They were rewarded when Dan Knightley popped up in the box to tap in a fumbled shot from oli Cotterill. And only 5 minute later Dan was rewarded again with a second when he arrived late to slot in central's second. Central could have scored a lot more except for some excellent keeping from the Phoenix keeper.

A good performance from all the Central players.

PINHOE ATHLETIC 8 CENTRAL 4

This was an excellent game of football, played with good spirit and good skill. Central started well defending some good pinhoe attacks and when they did break forward they looked dangerous. They were rewarded 10 minutes into the game when George Howe took a free kick on the left wing and floated it to the near post for Josh Barlow to score for Central against his old team.

Central then stunned the home crowd when Dan Knightley was put through against the keeper and superbly lobbed the keeper from outside the box to go 2-0 up. Pinhoe piled on the pressure and pulled one back, but once again when Central attacked they scored. This time it was Paul Chulu who netted to go 3-1 up. This was a sign for Pinhoe who made 2 substitions bringing on a couple of city trainees and their quality showed. Pinhoe went into half time 6-3 up.

In the second half Pinhoe pushed forward and were awarded a penalty, but Dan Tutchings pulled of a brilliant save to his right to keep Central in the game.

An excellent move down the left wing with passing from Matt Braund, Luke Henderson & Josh Barlow saw Paul Chulu pop up in the box to score his second and central's fourth of the match. Pinhoe's quality in the end was too much for Central and 2 late goals sealed the match for the Pins.

STOKE HILL  4  CENTRAL  5

Central went into today's game with several key players out through injury, Ten Tors training or trips to Old Trafford (sad) !!! but the replacements showed true spirit and battled well through out the game.

Stoke Hill started the better and went 2-0 up in the first 15 minutes but Central dug deep and pulled 1 goal back when Elliot Parkinson was left unmarked in the box to fire home his first goal of the season for Central and with only seconds left in the first half, Steve Bampton equalised to go in 2-2.

In the second half Stoke went 3-2 up, but once again Central came back with the goal of the game when Jamie Bush fired home a superb volley from the edge of the box and within 5 minutes Central went ahead when Dan Knightley scored his fourth goal of the season when he went around the keeper and slotted into the open net.

Central were not finished yet and won a corner, and Alex Helliar nodded home Central's fifth of the game Stoke Hill pulled one more goal back to make the last few minutes tense, but Central hung on for a well deserved win

A special mention must go to Louis Theodossiou who made his come back after a serious injury which has kept him out of the game for nearly 12 months

CENTRAL 3 WESTEXE 4

This was an excellent game of football played in the correct spirit with both sides playing good football. Westexe took the lead after 15 minutes but their lead didn't last long when Luke Henderson was brought down on the left wing. Alex Helliar crossed the free kick into the box and watched as it went straight into the corner of the net, Westexe took the lead again but once again Central equalised when Dan Knightley earned a penalty for Ollie Cotterill to slot home.

In the second half Central went in front When Steve Bampton battled well for the ball and put in a superb cross to find Dan Knightley on the far post who was left an easy tap in.  Unfortunately the lead didn't last long and Westexe levelled the game when Steve bampton tried to clear the ball but put it straight into his own net. Westexe scored the winning goal with only 5 minutes left.

STOKE HILL 0 CENTRAL 1

After last weeks superb battling performance against Pinhoe, this was another superb team performance, with every player giving 100%. Central's passing was top class which made several chances in the first half, but some excellent goal keeping from the Stoke Hill keeper kept it 0-0 at half time.

In the second half Stoke hill came close when an in-direct free kick for a back pass which the keeper picked up was cleared of the line by skipper Alex Helliar. Central came close on several occasions but were unlucky until 5 minutes from the end when man of the match Steve Bampton beat two defenders on the right and crossed to the near post for Oli Cotterill to slide in and tap home, beating the wrong footed keeper. Well played Central.

CENTRAL 3 PHOENIX 1

This was another excellent team performance from central after going 1-0 down early in the second half, Central didn't panic and played some skillful football. They were rewarded with goals from Oli Cotterill (pen), Josh Barlow, and Jamie Bush. It was nice to hear the Central parents on the side line praising an excellent team performance.

Well played one and all.

BROADCLYST 2 CENTRAL 3

This was an excellent game of football with Broadclyst playing attractive football but with Central battling for every single ball. Broadclyst took the lead in the first half when a shot rebounded of the cross bar hit Goalkeeper Ricky Virgin and went in. Central got their reward when Oli Cotterill was put through by Jamie Bush and rounded the keeper to slot home.

In the second half Central took the lead, again from Oli whose shot went low and hard into the corner of the net. Central then took a 3-1 lead when Alex Helliar took a free kick and found Oli who headed the ball towards goal only for the Broadclyst keeper to miss the ball on a bumpy pitch to give Oli a deserved hat-trick.  Broadclyst piled on the pressure and got one goal back, but the Central defence and Ricky in goal battled for every ball and deserved the win.
