TWYFORD SPARTANS 9 CENTRAL 4

SAT. 10/09/05

Our season began with a trip to Tiverton against a very strong Twyford side in terrible conditions. With the rain in their faces Central battled well and never let their heads drop even when they were 2-0 down after 15 mins, Goals from JACK DAVIES (2) ROB COUSINS & OLLIE COTTERILL were not enough against a side  who I'm sure will finish in the top half of the table.

CENTRAL  1  BOW  0

With  the news of two of Centrals players handing in a transfer request to go to Topsham and with Alex Weir unavailable, Manager Steve Bampton had to switch a few players around. In much better conditions than last week the game settled down with some exciting football from both sides.

Central's re-arranged defence of Robbie Shearman, Oli Cotterill, Dan Knightley and Matt Ryewood were playing very well keeping out a fast Bow strike force. And with the midfield duo of Jamie and Paul winning most of the tackles in the centre of the pitch, Central began to take control of the game. Strikes from Steve Bampton and Rob Cousins were on target but didnt trouble the keeper too much.

Half time came quickly and both sides went in at 0-0. In the second half Central looked the stronger side and after 15 mins of the second period they got their reward with a through pass from the midfield Steve Bampton, latched on to the ball and slotted it into the corner of the net. This spurred Bow on who then played some good football in Central's half of the pitch,

but nothing was going to get past Central's goalkeeper Dan Touchings who pulled of some great saves to keep his first clean sheet. Final score Central  1  Bow  0

Man of the Match goes to all the Central players who effort, sportsmanship, and skill was a pleasure to watch.

BROADCLYST 2 CENTRAL 0

This was a game of two halves, in the first Broadclyst were the stronger side playing good football and with the home side playing with five in midfield, Central were always on the back foot. They went into the break 1-0 down. In the second half Central were much better getting the ball down and playing with two wingers they played some attractive football.

With five minutes left manager switched the players around pushing Oli Cotteril up front and it almost paid of when he rounded th keeper only to put the ball past the post. With seconds left Broadclyst secured the win with a second.

WESTEXE 7 CENTRAL 3

The Central squad went into todays game full of promise after last weeks success, but came up against a Westexe side with different ideas and it was after only 10 mins that Central fell behind.

But with good spirit they battled back and scored a great equaliser when Rob Cousins chased a back pass forcing the goalie to only pass the ball straight to Sammy Kingdon who returned the ball straight to the back of the Westexe net. Unfortunatley Central couldn't keep hold of the ball and fell behind again 2-1.

But the best was yet to come when midfield dynamo Jamie won the ball and released Steve Bampton who then in return put through Paul Chulu on the right who thumped the ball into the top corner of the net. 2-2. Once again though Westexe came back at us at went in at half time 3-2 up.

Central started well in the second half a found another equaliser when Sammy Kingdon scored his second and best goal.3-3. Westexe would not rest on this though and used the wind in their backs to full advantage and scored 4 more goals without reply in the last 20 mins of the second half.

CENTRAL 4 STOKE HILL 1

Some excellent football was played today by Central and they always looked in complete control. They took the lead after 5 mins when Steve Bampton slipped the ball past Stoke Hill's keeper, and it wasn't long before he scored his second. Central went in at half time 2-0 up and manager Steve Bampton was "over the moon " with the team performance.

In the second half the defence of Dan Knightley, Ollie Cotterill, Alex Helliar & Rob Cousins didn't look too troubled. It was after 50 mins that Central scored their third when Sammy Kingdom and Steve Bampton combined well only for Stoke Hill keeper to save well, but Paul Chulu followed up and slotted the ball into the net.

Stoke Hill scored one goal but this only pushed Central on and with Eric Spink, Jamie Bush and George Howe pressuring Stoke's defence, they were unlucky to score an own goal.Final score Central 4 Stoke Hill 1

Goalscorers Steve Bampton (2) Paul Chulu, Own goal.

The Cup 1st round

PHOENIX  4  CENTRAL  1

This was an excellent cup tie and Central started very well- pounding the Phoenix goal but could not get past an excellent keeper who pulled off some brilliant saves. Central were made to pay as Phoenix then broke away and scored 2 quick goals.

Once again Central never gave up and pulled one back straight away with a goal from Sammy Kingdon. In the second half Central once again had a lot of possession but could not put the ball in the net and as they pushed forward, Phoenix scored two more goals to put the tie beyond Central.

Man of the Match goes to the Phoenix keeper for an excellent performance.

BRIXINGTON YOUTH 2 CENTRAL 4

Central started this game well with some good possession, but couldn't score and fell behind when they failed to mark up at a corner when Brixington scored with a headed goal. Brixington then played some good football and scored a second 5 minutes later.

This made Central wake up and they finally scored when Ollie Cotterill received a through ball and lobbed the on coming keeper. At half time central went in 2-1 down and Manager Steve Bampton made an excellent tactical change by changing the formation from a 4-4-2 to 3-5-2, and this paid dividends straight away when Sammy Kingdon received a knock down on the edge of the box and volleyed it into the top corner to level the match.

Central took the lead when Steven Bampton beat three players and was brought down in the box to give Central a penalty, which Ollie Cotterill slotted into the corner. Central were not finished yet and played their best football of the game. Midfield dynamo Jamie Bush won another tackle and put an inch perfect pass through to Ollie Cotterill who finished well to complete his first hat-trick of the season.

A special mention to sub Matt Ridewood who came on as sub for the last 5 minutes  after being out of action for 8 weeks with torn ligaments in his shoulder.

CENTRAL 4 PHOENIX 1

On a bright sunny morning, and on a good pitch this was perfect conditions for good football, and some excellent football was played from both sides and it was a pleasure to watch. Central got a perfect start after only 2 minutes they won a corner which was swung in by George Howe for Oli Cotterill to head into the corner of the net.

Phoenix then started to play football and equalised after 10 minutes.  But the best was yet to come when Central won the ball on the right wing feeding George again, who put another good cross over which was met again by Oli Cotterill who scored with a superb overhead kick. This goal should have been on the T.V. as both sides of parents applauded an excellent piece of skill.

In the second half Central continued to put the pressure on and were rewarded with a third goal when Paul Chulu put through Sammy Kingdon who slotted the ball past the on coming keeper. Phoenix tried their best to score but they couldn't get past stand in keeper Matt Braund who pulled off some excellent saves. Central sealed the match when from another corner Alex Helliar won a header which was blocked but then Alex was first to the rebound and thumped the ball into the roof of the net to score his first goal of the season for Central.

Sammy Kingdom must get a special mention for the miss of the season when he received the ball from Steve Bampton inside the six yard box only to sky the ball over the net. (Don't worry Sam your team mates will not say anything at school!)

PINHOE 1 CENTRAL 0

This game was played on an icy pitch but it didn't stop both sides playing some good football. WIth two key players in Alex Helliar & Louis Theodossiou absent due to Rugby and injury, the team had to be switched around. Pinhoe had the first good attack but Dan Tutchings pulled off a fine one handed re-action save to keep the scores level.

The second half was much the same as the first with both sides playing good football but not creating many chances until after 60 minutes when Pinhoe scored the winner. Later chances from Rob Cousins and Sammy Kingdom couldn't get the deserved equaliser for Central.

A special mention to keeper Dan Tutchings who's excellent performance was noted by a profesional coach watching the game, and Dan has been invited for a coaching course at the Ottery St Mary school of excellence on Monday evenings. Well Played Dan.

Central 2 Heavitree 2

This was an excellent game of football played on a sticky, muddy pitch with wind and rain playing a part as well. Heavitree had the first strike on goal when Zac Spivey shot at goal but it was tipped on to the post from star goalie Dan Tutchings. A few minutes later Central had their first strike at goal when George Howe & Sammy Kingdom worked well on the right & when Sam crossed the ball, in form striker Ollie Cotterill was first to the ball to score Central's first.

The first half was coming to and end when Heavitree got a free kick on the edge of the box and ex Central player Johnny Holding placed the ball into the top corner to equalise for Heavitree. In the second half Heavitree had a lot of possession and it paid off when they went into the lead after 50 minutes. But once again Central showed true grit and determination and they battled for every ball.

This paid good dividends when George Howe took a short corner and when he received the ball back again put in an unstoppable shot/cross from outside the box. (not quite 40 yards George!!)  to bring the scores level.

A good team performance from all Central players including subs Matt Ridewood and Sam Pilbrow

PINHOE SPARTANS  6  CENTRAL  1

Central were up against the league leaders today and although Pinhoe were the better and stronger side, Central's effort and tackling was first class. Pinhoe took the lead after 15 minutes when a mix up in the defence left David Hood with a simple tap in. Central equalised 5 minutes later from Ollie Cotterill who scored his 10th goal of the season.

Two further goals from Pinhoe sent the game in at half time 3-1 down but more bad news was to follow for the Central manager when goalkeeper Dan Tutchings had to come off with a knee injury, so sub goalie Matt Braund stepped in and although 3 more goals went in Matt pulled off some excellent saves. The Midfield players of central Louis Theodossiou, Jamie Bush, Paul Chulu put in an excellent performance with some superb tackling.

Many thanks to Pinhoe for the Sausage and Chips provided after the match

CENTRAL  2  WESTEXE  4

Central went into this game full of confidence after last week's win, but they came up against a well organised Westexe side. Although Central started well playing good football in the opposition half, they couldn't score. Westexe took full advantage of this and scored three quick goals before half-time. Central did pull one back before the interval from goal machine Oli Cotterill.

In the second half Westexe scored one more, then for some reason Central started to play some proper football, passing the ball around and with plenty of movement. This was rewarded just before the final whistle when Oli scored his 19th goal of the season

CENTRAL 3 TOPSHAM 4

Central started well when after only 2 minutes they scored with a goal from Alex Helliar to go 1 up, but with 2 key players unavailable it wasn't long before Topsham equalised and then went 3 -1 up. At half time some players were switched around and this helped improve Central's football.

Topsham then scored the best goal of the game when they received the ball in their own penalty box and passed it all the way up the pitch to score a well taken goal. Ollie Cotterill then scored for Central and with only 5 minutes left Ollie scored another from the penalty spot. Central battled well in the last few minutes of the game but couldn't get the equaliser.

STOKE HILL 3 CENTRAL 4

Central went into this game with a "must do better" message from the manager Steve Bampton and they started well with some tidy football but fell behind when Stoke Hill put a long ball over the top of the defence. Central carried on playing football and it paid off when Alex Helliar had a free kick and put through Ollie Cotterill who lobbed the ball over the on coming keeper.

What goes up must come down surely? (above)

Central's second came again from a through ball but this time it came from captain for the day Jamie Bush, who put through Ollie again who thumped the ball past the keeper to go 2-1 up at half time. In the second half Central tried to tighten up the defence and it was a welcome return to Rob Sherman playing his first game for over a month due to national table tennis comps.

U14s Vs Stoke Hill 2005/6

The race is on (above)

But Stoke Hill had other ideas and Central keeper Dan Tutchings pulled of some fine saves, but was unable in the end to stop Stoke Hill getting a just deserved equaliser. The best from Central was yet to come when Paul Chulu won another ball in midfield, he then passed out wide to Louis Theodossiou, who in turn beat one defender and put a fantastic curling pass to Ollie who slotted a lovely shot past the keeper to score a superb hat-trick. Stoke Hill to their credit refused to give up and with a good passing move scored straight from the kick off.

A great header (above)

With only about ten minutes to go and the game looking like a draw, the ball got pushed forward to Ollie who this time with his left foot shot across the keeper and scored the winning goal off the post. Man of the match goes without doubt to OLLIE COTTERILL who scored 4 fantastic goals to win the match. WELL BATTLED THE CENTRAL TEAM

CENTRAL 0 BROADCLYST 3

Central put in a much better performance compared with last weeks game. The effort and commitment was much better, but they came up against an improving Broadclyst side who always looked in control of the game.

Central's best effort came from Jamie Bush who's shot from the edge of the box went over the Broadclyst crossbar.

The training session next week will help with two important games coming up in the next 2 weeks.

CENTRAL 3 HONITON 1

Once again the Central Manager had to rearrange his side due to illness within the squad, but the whole team played well today. Central started well passing the ball around and it was after 15 minutes the ball was worked down the left side with Louis Theodossiou put in a good cross, although the ball was cleared by the Honiton defence it fell to George Howe who from 20 yards thumped a great volley into the roof of the net to put Central 1-0 up.

Honiton equalised when they were awarded a free kick on their left wing and the resulting cross was not defended well giving an easy tap in for Honiton to pull level.

In the second half Central took control of the midfield and began to play the ball out wide and were rewarded with a second goal when Sammy Kingdom was put through and with good pace he beat the Honiton defence and their keeper to the ball to slot the ball into the corner of the net. It was 10 minutes later when Sam scored his second of the match lobbing the keeper to put the game safe for Central.

This was a good team performance especially seeing a lot of players were not in their normal positions

CENTRAL 1 BRIXINGTON 3

After last weeks win Central went into this game full of confidence, and they started well playing some good football. They made some good chances but there final shots on goal were weak. Central continued to pepper the Brixington goal but were then pinned back when Brixington took the lead.

Half way through the second half Brixington scored a second against the run of play. George Howe pulled one back for Central and with a shot against the crossbar falling into the goal keepers arms, a good shout for a penalty turned down, it wasn't going to be Central's day, and this was confirmed when in the last 5 minutes Brixington scored a third

TOPSHAM 2 CENTRAL 4

On a perfect match day Central played their best football of the season against a good Topsham side. They were put under pressure in the first 10 minutes but defended well. When they did break free they won their first corner after 10 minutes, up stepped Jamie Bush and put a delightful in-swinging cross straight into the Topsham net to score his first goal for Central.

It was after 20 minutes when Central scored their second when Paul Chulu won the ball in midfield and put through Ollie Cotterill who calmly slotted the ball past the oncoming keeper.

The second half started with Topsham pushing forward and they were rewarded when a mix up in defence let the Topsham strike force in to pull a goal back, but this didn't bother Central and 5 minutes later Ollie Cotterill scored his second goal of the game lobbing the keeper.

Central's best move of the game came when Rob Cousins won a strong tackle on the half way line, then passing to Steve Bampton who chipped the ball to Oli on the edge of Topsham's box who in turn nodded the ball down to Paul Chulu who then put the ball into the corner of the net.

Topsham pulled one more goal back, but Central's display was excellent and deserved all 3 points

CENTRAL 0 PINHOE YOUTH 4

This was an excellent game of football played by two sides playing good football, both sides came close to scoring early on but it was Pinhoe who took advantage and went into the half time break one nil up.

In the second half Central came close to scoring having two headers cleared of the goal-line from Steve Bampton, a superb diving save from the Pins keeper keeping out Oli Cotterill and a chance from Sammy Kingdom which just went over the crossbar. Pinhoe took their chances, with a penalty, a pressurised own goal and sealed the match when Central pushed forward and Pinhoe broke away to score the 4th.

An excellent game of football, but the result doesn't give credit to a strong team performance from Central.

CENTRAL 1  PINHOE ATHLETIC 6

This was an excellent performance from the Central side against the league leaders who were always in control of the game, but the effort and commitment from Central was superb. In the first half with the wind against them Central struggled getting the ball out of their half  and went in at half time 4-0 down.

But in the second-half even though the wind died down Central raised their game and this was rewarded when Oli Cottirill was one against one with the keeper, although the keeper saved, Sammy Kingdon was there to follow up to score his 8th goal of the season.
