Under 9s Fixtures/Results
Saturday 9th May
Central City 3 v 1 Pinhoe Pikes
A close fought first half, saw no goals, although Joseph
Heggadon, coming up from defence, and Harvey Young and Freddie James from
midfield, all went close. All three put in strong performances, well supported
by William Cashere in midfield and Callum Davison up-front.
After the break Central took control of the game, with Freddie James grabbing a
quick fire hat-trick to put them 3-0 up.
To Pinhoe’s credit they came back at Central and had a lot of the game in the
closing stages, scoring a deserved goal of their own.
The Central defence of James Bryant in goal and Jaime Hammond and Joshua Morris
at the back, held-out strongly to secure the win.
Saturday 9th May
Central City 2 v 1 Pinhoe Spears
Two very evenly matched sides produced an excellent game of
football.
There were chances at both ends, with Central going ahead in the first-half when
the Pinhoe goalkeeper pushed away a powerful shot, which fell to midfielder
Joseph Heggadon, who scored from close range.
Pinhoe came back at Central and scored a deserved equaliser just before
half-time.
Harvey Young and William Caschere had good games playing in more defensive roles
than normal. Freddie James had another excellent game in midfield, well
supported by Jaime Hammond.
At half-time, the injured Joseph Heggadon went in goal and kept a clean sheet
despite strong pressure from Pinhoe. James Bryant came out of goal to play in
midfield and put in a hard working performance.
Callum Davison upfront never stopped running and battling for the ball. He got
his reward with a well taken goal after a run and excellent low shot into the
corner of the net.
Joshua Morris came on late in the game to help Central hang-on for the closest
of victories and to finish the season on a high note.
Saturday 25th April
Twyford Rangers 0 V 7 Central City
Central City were always on top and played some good football.
Harvey Young and Freddie James had good games in midfield and fully deserved
their two goals each.
Joseph Glenny in attack, linked well with the midfield and was on target from
close range to finish off a good move just before half-time, to make it 5 – 0.
In the second half, Joseph Heggadon came on up front and scored two well taken
goals with powerful shots.
A good team performance against a Twyford Rangers side who rarely threatened,
but never gave up.
Saturday 25th April
Twyford Celtic 4 V 0 Central City
A hard working team performance saw Central City make a strong Twford Celtic
team work hard for their victory.
Deserving of particular praise were Toby Criss and Jaime Hammond in defence who
tackled strongly and never gave up, always making it difficult for Twford.
James Bryant in goal made several excellent saves to deny Twyford and keep
Central in the game.
In the end, two well taken goals in each half put Twford in control of the game,
but to their credit Central City heads never dropped.
Saturday 25th April
Twyford Rangers 0 V 5 Central City
This game took a while to get going - although United were
clearly the stronger team. Passing movements were practically non-existant.
Individually, Nathan Townsend bagged 4 in the first half, and Kevin Lee was well
rewarded for his good play with a goal to make it 5-0 at the turn. No goals in
the second half was evidence of how much United were really struggling on the
day and well done to Rangers for their refusal to drop their heads.
Saturday 25th April
Twyford Celtic 9 V 1 Central City
An awesome start from United who were stroking the ball around
confidently from kick-off. A lovely move saw Nathan Townsend through on goal and
the usual result ensued: 1-0 to United. After that it was all downhill! Twyford
began to get back into the game and the United players found themselves chasing
shadows. Time and again the defence was overrun and poor Will Wenley in goal
faced an onslaught. Will Gregory and Alex Pinskey in defence are to be
congratulated on their efforts but too often a lack of movement from their
midfield and striking teammates let them down.
Saturday 18th April 2009
Sid Town Raiders 0 V 2 Central City
An excellent and hard working team performance saw Central City
play some of their best football of the season.
The match was closely fought, but sturdy defence from Toby Criss and Jaime
Hammond, and several good saves from James Bryant in goal, kept Sid Town Raiders
out.
Freddie James and Harvey Young in midfield, controlled large parts of the game
with their strong tackling and forward runs, well supported by William Caschere.
In the first half Callum Davison gave his all upfront, linking well with the
midfield, but was unable to make the breakthrough.
At half-time, Joseph Glenny was brought on upfront and made an instant impact
with two quick well taken goals.
Sid never gave up, but the strong team performance saw City safely home for a
deserved victory.
Saturday 18th April 2009
Sid Town Warriors 0 V 0 Central City
Another excellent team performance, by Central City.
Despite lacking a goal, the game was free flowing and closely fought, with both
sides deserving credit and having chances to win.
Sid Town Warriors came close on a few occasions and finished strongly. The
Central defence of Toby Criss and Jaime Hammond, supported by James Bryant in
goal, deserve special mention for their considerable efforts in keeping a clean
sheet.
In midfield, both Freddie James and Harvey Young put in excellent performances,
with Young coming closest to scoring with a couple of very good long range shots
in the second half.
In the end a draw was a fair result, but it was certainly not dull.
Saturday 18th April 2009
Sid Town Warriors 5 V 0 Central Utd
Depleted in numbers, United nevertheless fought determinedly
from kick-off and held a strong Sidmouth side until late in the half. However,
once the home side had scored their opener the result was never in doubt.
United's defence was stretched repeatedly and overwhelmed at times. Well done to
William Gregory and Talie Metcalfe-Wood for refusing to drop their heads.
Saturday 18th April 2009
Sid Town Raiders 0 V 2 Central Utd
Although playing their 2nd full game, all the United players
looked energised throughout and a deserved victory was the result of this
excellent effort. Thomas O'Donnell was in inspired form and seems (belatedly!)
back to last season's goal scoring ways. The 2nd goal with an assist from Arthur
Burrow was fair reward for the side's efforts. Special mention in this game to
Luke Perry and Alex Pinskey for some wholehearted tackling.
Saturday 28th Mar 2009
Central City 2 v 1 Westhill Wasps
A closely fought and very open game with chances at both ends
and Central shading it, for a good win.
In the early part of the game defences were on top. James Bryant in goal for
Central made some good saves and clearances, with defenders Jaime Hammond and
William Cashere sticking well to their task. In midfield, the tireless Harvey
Young worked hard both defending and getting forward to support attacks.
After a goalless first half, Joseph Glenny opened the scoring with a well taken
goal from close range. West Hill then came back well to equalise.
Straight from the kick-off, Freddie James went through the heart of the West
Hill defence, playing a ‘one – two’ with Joseph Glenny, beating the last
defender and slotting the ball home in style for an excellent goal.
West Hill weren’t finished and the game remained end-to-end, with Central
holding on for victory.
Saturday 28th Mar 2009
Central City 0 v 2 Honiton
Central dominated large parts of the first half, but couldn’t
convert possession and attacks into clear chances and goals.
Honiton then came back into the game and took the lead with a well taken shot,
low into the corner of the net, giving Joseph Heggadon in goal, no chance.
One behind at half-time, Central still competed well and again Harvey Young in
midfield played well, with William Caschere, Callum Davison and Jaime Hammond
also making major contributions.
Mid-way through the second half Honiton scored their second, with a strong run
and good finish.
Central had little left to give and despite their efforts, clear chances were
increasingly hard to come by and the game was beyond them.
Saturday 28th Mar 2009
Central Utd 1 v 0 Honiton
An extremely bright start from United who delighted watching
parents with their industry and commitment. Great interplay in midfield created
a couple of good chances for Talie Metcalfe-Wood and Frank Trimble. Nathan
Townsend deservedly put the home side ahead with a characteristic well-taken
goal. The defence of Will Gregory and Alex Pinskey coped with everything Honiton
through at them and Will Wenley in goal was a spectator for most of match.
Saturday 28th Mar 2009
Central Utd 1 v 1 Westhill Wasps
Changes in midfield brought on the fresh legs of Arthur Burrow
and George O'Brien. Whilst
displaying great energy, the side seemed to miss a beat or two for much of the
first half. Nathan Townsend came on at half time to put United ahead but his
presence seemed to have a debilitating effect on the other players as they sat
back hoping to coast to victory. The inevitable result followed and in the end
only desperate defence secured the draw.
Saturday 21th Mar 2009
Pinhoe Pikes 0 v 1 Central City
A really good team performance from Central City in a very close
fought game.
In the first half scoring chances were scarce and both defences largely came out
on top. For City that was James Bryant is goal, making some important stops and
good kick-outs, combined with consistently good tackling and defensive work from
Toby Criss and Jaime Hammond.
Just before half-time a high bouncing ball was handled in the box by a Pinhoe
defender and a rare penalty was given. Joseph Heggadon stepped-up with
confidence and his low hard shot was placed right in the corner, to put City one
up.
In the second half both sides had chances and went close, but City held on for a
good win.
Saturday 21th Mar 2009
Pinhoe Spears 1 v 1 Central City
Pinhoe took the lead in the first half, when a long kick-out
from their goalkeeper was not cleared by the City defence and a strong shot flew
past Joseph Heggadon in goal.
The team’s excellent team effort ensured that heads did not drop. When the
excellent and hard working Callum Davison up-front went close on several
occasions, hitting the post with more than one attempt, it seemed it was not
going to be City’s day.
The second half was largely one-way traffic, with City playing down hill and
Joseph Heggadon doing some good work in goal, with excellent kick-outs.
City kept pressing forward and Jaime Hammond, coming up from defence to join the
attack, scored with a well taken goal, in-off the post with two minutes left.
The goal was just rewards for the boys, who never gave up and rightly got a
round of applause at the end for their ‘never say die’ attitude.
Saturday 14th Mar 2009
U9's Plate Comp Match3
Central City 1 v 2 Dawlish
Only needing a draw to win the Group and qualify for the Plate
Finals, it was just not City’s day.
Despite a lot of pressure and going close on more than one occasion in the first
half, the game was suddenly turned on its head. A deflected effort flew past
James Bryant in goal and shortly after a freak long kick out from the Dawlish
goalkeeper, with the wind behind him, passed over everybody and bounced over the
head of the unlucky James Bryant in goal.
Heads were low, but in the second half City carried on taking the game to
Dawlish and deservedly got a goal back through the hard working Nathan Townsend.
City continued to press and had chances to equalise, but it was not to be.
So near, so far!!
Saturday 14th Mar 2009
U9's Plate Comp Match2
Central City 5 v 0 Heavitree Hawks
A complete change around for the second game, resting boys after
a tough match against St Martins and giving those who didn’t get on previously,
a full game to show what they could do.
The challenge was met in style with an excellent team performance and well taken
goals from Callum Davison (2), who played well up front, and Jammie Hammond (2)
showing his strength getting forward from midfield. William Caschere deservedly
added the third.
Saturday 14th Mar 2009
U9's Plate Comp Match1
Central City 2 v 0 St Martins
Central City played really well and fully deserved their victory
in a closely fought game.
Good team efforts throughout were rewarded with goals from Joseph Glenny and
Freddie James.
Saturday 7th Mar 2009
Crediton 1 - 0 Central City
Central City competed well and in a close fought game, deserved
a draw.
At the back, James Bryant made some good saves in goal and defenders Toby Criss
and Jaime Hammond, stuck well to the task.
In midfield, Harvey Young, Freddie James and William Caschere all battled well,
but couldn’t get past a strong and well organised Crediton defence. Substitutes
Joseph Heggadon and Callum Davison both made good contributions.
Crediton scored mid-way through the second half and despite a late surge by
City, which nearly saw them draw level, it was not to be.
Saturday 17th Jan 2009
Central City 0 - 3 West Exe Youth
A depleted Central City side, without substitutes, battled
valiantly against a good West Exe team.
It was ‘backs to the wall’ for large parts of the game, but Central made the
opposition work hard for their victory, with James Bryant playing well in goal
and consistently good defending from Toby Criss and Jaime Hammond.
City went one behind early on, but it was not until well into the second half
before a second goal put the game beyond them, quickly followed by a third. In
midfield, William Caschere and Joseph Heggadon competed well and Harvey Young
was both a competitive and attacking force.
Upfront, Callum Davison worked hard, together with Joseph Glenny who had chances
and was unlucky not to get a goal or two, which would have been justice for a
true team effort.
Saturday 17th Jan 2009
Central City 0 - 3 Alphas Rockets
The need to switch goalkeepers and with the inability to use
substitutes, City were fully stretched and struggled in the first half, going
three behind against a good Alphington side.
Their heads never dropped and it was again a valiant team effort against the
odds.
The injured Harvey Young showed he could adapt to playing in goal and James
Bryant came out of goal to perform well in defence, alongside the strong
tackling Toby Criss,.
Whilst second best, Central could have grabbed a goal for themselves, and made
sure that Alphington were unable to add to their half time lead.
Saturday 17th Jan 2009
Central United 1 Alphington 5
A committed recovery from United followed the shock of a very early goal
from Alphington. The vistors passing sometimes mesmorised the boys who were
guilty of watching the play at times. Nevertheless we battled to the final
whistle with due reward arriving thanks to a Nathan Townsend special free-kick.
Saturday 17th Jan 2009
Central United 1 - West Exe 3
At half-time the score at 0-0 reflected a very keenly contested game. Frank
Trimble demonstrated determination in covering back from midfield, Will Wenley
in goal again showed off his skills with his feet (!), and mention also to Luke
Perry who never shied away from any tackles. However, West Exe just had the edge
and capitalised on some losses in concentration and a dodgy 5 minutes from our
midfield. Nathan Townsend again restored some pride with a wonderful solo effort
from midfield.
Saturday 6th December 2008
St Martins 4 -3 Central city
Central started with great promise and raced to a 3 - 0 lead, with two goals
from Freddie James and one from Callum Davison.
It was then a question of lessons to be learned, as Central lost control of the
game and a hard working St Martins team, deservedly pulled themselves back into
the game, making the scores level by half-time.
Central couldn't respond and a well below par performance, saw them lose another
goal in the second half to give St Martins a deserved win.
St Martins 0 -1 Central city
These two sides are well-matched and the game was a pleasure to watch. Arthur
Burow came close with an excellent shot and Will Gregory also threatened from
the dead ball. The game became very tense as the 2nd half wore on until Thomas
O'Donnell broke the deadlock scoring from close range. A good team performance
from a very enthusiastic squad of players.
Dawlish 7 -1 Central city
Central again started well and held a strong Dawlish team until
just before half-time, when they lost two quick goals.
The effort put in during the first half was rewarded when the hard working
Callum Davison scored a good goal to bring Central back into the game.
This should have been the opportunity to further put Dawlish under pressure, but
Central's better moments were never sustained. A third goal for Dawlish quickly
followed and the flood gates opened with Dawlish adding another four before the
close.
Dawlish 4 -0 Central city
Central played the first half with determination and good
spirit. It was extremely pleasing to see some well thought out passing moves and
the boys beginning to take a little time on the ball. Will Wenley in defence
distinguished himself with one extremely brave save and Luke Perry was also to
the fore with several well timed tackles. Half-time changed the game with
Central lacking the cohesion of the first period and conceding 3 goals through
the heart of defence.
Saturday 8th November 2008 CUP GAME
Central City 0 -2 Exmouth
A great
team performance, packed with plenty of hard work and competitive spirit saw
Central give a strong Exmouth Amateurs team a really tough game.
Central
started well and the midfield of Freddie James, Harvey Young and William Cashere,
combined with Nathan Townsend up-front, really took the game to Exmouth with
strong tackling, good passing and some excelent attacking runs.
The game
was end to end and Exmouth too attacked strongly, where they were met by
excellent defensive work from Jaime Hammond and Toby Criss. James Bryant in
goal showed safe hands and came out to clear danger on several occasions and to
keep the scores level at half-time.
Despite
Central's continued efforts in the second half, including the contribution of
Joseph Heggadon who came on in midfield, Exmouth started to have more of the
game as Central tired. Shortly after the break Exmouth scored, but City did not
give up and fought hard to the end, losing a second goal just before the
finish.
A final
comment for the boys who didn't get a game on this occasion, but showed true
team spirit supporting from the touch line.
The
applause from the parent's at the end was truly deserved and whilst it means we
are out of the Cup this season, it is with pride and the boys must be proud of
themselves.
Central United 2 - 0 St Martins CUP GAME
Great running from Thomas O'Donnell up front and confident back play from
Wiiliam Gregory and Alex Pinskey set a sound platform. The first goal was
wonderfully worked with a strong run down the right resulting in a simple
knock-in for Talie Metcalfe-Wood. Central didn't sit back and pressed on for a
second - which duly came thanks to a George O'Brien shot into the top corner of
net. The boys took their foot off the gas in the second half and should learn
from this.
Saturday 4th October
Exmouth 5 - Central United 0
Exmouth dominated large periods of game, and United's lack of cohesion when
the pressure was on undid them. However, some good performances were displayed -
notably by Will Wenley in goal. A little more care when defending would have
resulted in a much closer result.
Saturday 4th October
Brixington 3 - Central United 1
Against a side that had inflicted a pretty heavy defeat last season, the
United team showed a determination not to give up that was most encouraging. The
spirit evidenced in the second half resulted in a late and well deserved goal by
Nathan Townsend. The boys should be able to build on a performance such as this!
Saturday 4th October
Brixington Blues 5 - Central City 0
Central battled well and played some good football with Harvey Young,
William Caschere , Callum Davison and Joseph Glenny all linking up well in the
first half.
City slipped behind to some good play and goals from Brixington, coming under
increasing pressure from the good opposition.
The highlight of City's performance was some excellent defending by man of the
match Jaime Hammond, who was well supported by Toby Criss, with James Bryant in
goal making some good saves.
Saturday 4th October
Exmouth Amateurs 7 - Central City 0
Central started well and a hard working team performance made it difficult
early on, for a good Exmouth side. Harvey Young had City's best attempts on
goal, although was restricted to long range efforts.
City started slipping behind just before the break and as the game went on,
Exmouth were just too strong for them.
Again City's defence never gave up and James Bryant in goal made several good
saves. Defenders Jaime Hammond and Toby Criss battled well and both George
O'Brien and Joshua Morris, came on and contributed well.
Saturday 20th September 2008
Central United 4 Hemyock 0
1st game of the season and early exchanges were cagey. The home side's passing
already shows tremendous improvement from last yearand Central began to get on
top through dogged endeavour in the midfield. Nathan Townsend displayed his
individual skills and managed to score 4.
Saturday 20th September 2008
Central United 2 - Cully Rangers 2
Grit and determination brought a well-deserved draw against a strong Cully side.
Unexpectedly, United managed to go 2 up thanks to Nathan Townsend and debutant
Talie Metcalfe Wood. The defence battled manfully to contain Cully for the rest
of match and special mention must go to debutant Luke Perry and also Will Wenley
in goal who pulled off a spectacular save late in the 2nd half.
