Under 9s Fixtures/Results
Saturday 6th December 2008
St Martins 4 -3 Central city
Central started with great promise and raced to a 3 - 0 lead, with two goals
from Freddie James and one from Callum Davison.
It was then a question of lessons to be learned, as Central lost control of the
game and a hard working St Martins team, deservedly pulled themselves back into
the game, making the scores level by half-time.
Central couldn't respond and a well below par performance, saw them lose another
goal in the second half to give St Martins a deserved win.
St Martins 0 -1 Central city
These two sides are well-matched and the game was a pleasure to watch. Arthur
Burow came close with an excellent shot and Will Gregory also threatened from
the dead ball. The game became very tense as the 2nd half wore on until Thomas
O'Donnell broke the deadlock scoring from close range. A good team performance
from a very enthusiastic squad of players.
Dawlish 7 -1 Central city
Central again started well and held a strong Dawlish team until
just before half-time, when they lost two quick goals.
The effort put in during the first half was rewarded when the hard working
Callum Davison scored a good goal to bring Central back into the game.
This should have been the opportunity to further put Dawlish under pressure, but
Central's better moments were never sustained. A third goal for Dawlish quickly
followed and the flood gates opened with Dawlish adding another four before the
close.
Dawlish 4 -0 Central city
Central played the first half with determination and good
spirit. It was extremely pleasing to see some well thought out passing moves and
the boys beginning to take a little time on the ball. Will Wenley in defence
distinguished himself with one extremely brave save and Luke Perry was also to
the fore with several well timed tackles. Half-time changed the game with
Central lacking the cohesion of the first period and conceding 3 goals through
the heart of defence.
Saturday 8th November 2008 CUP GAME
Central City 0 -2 Exmouth
A great
team performance, packed with plenty of hard work and competitive spirit saw
Central give a strong Exmouth Amateurs team a really tough game.
Central
started well and the midfield of Freddie James, Harvey Young and William Cashere,
combined with Nathan Townsend up-front, really took the game to Exmouth with
strong tackling, good passing and some excelent attacking runs.
The game
was end to end and Exmouth too attacked strongly, where they were met by
excellent defensive work from Jaime Hammond and Toby Criss. James Bryant in
goal showed safe hands and came out to clear danger on several occasions and to
keep the scores level at half-time.
Despite
Central's continued efforts in the second half, including the contribution of
Joseph Heggadon who came on in midfield, Exmouth started to have more of the
game as Central tired. Shortly after the break Exmouth scored, but City did not
give up and fought hard to the end, losing a second goal just before the
finish.
A final
comment for the boys who didn't get a game on this occasion, but showed true
team spirit supporting from the touch line.
The
applause from the parent's at the end was truly deserved and whilst it means we
are out of the Cup this season, it is with pride and the boys must be proud of
themselves.
Central United 2 - 0 St Martins CUP GAME
Great running from Thomas O'Donnell up front and confident back play from
Wiiliam Gregory and Alex Pinskey set a sound platform. The first goal was
wonderfully worked with a strong run down the right resulting in a simple
knock-in for Talie Metcalfe-Wood. Central didn't sit back and pressed on for a
second - which duly came thanks to a George O'Brien shot into the top corner of
net. The boys took their foot off the gas in the second half and should learn
from this.
Saturday 4th October
Exmouth 5 - Central United 0
Exmouth dominated large periods of game, and United's lack of cohesion when
the pressure was on undid them. However, some good performances were displayed -
notably by Will Wenley in goal. A little more care when defending would have
resulted in a much closer result.
Saturday 4th October
Brixington 3 - Central United 1
Against a side that had inflicted a pretty heavy defeat last season, the
United team showed a determination not to give up that was most encouraging. The
spirit evidenced in the second half resulted in a late and well deserved goal by
Nathan Townsend. The boys should be able to build on a performance such as this!
Saturday 4th October
Brixington Blues 5 - Central City 0
Central battled well and played some good football with Harvey Young,
William Caschere , Callum Davison and Joseph Glenny all linking up well in the
first half.
City slipped behind to some good play and goals from Brixington, coming under
increasing pressure from the good opposition.
The highlight of City's performance was some excellent defending by man of the
match Jaime Hammond, who was well supported by Toby Criss, with James Bryant in
goal making some good saves.
Saturday 4th October
Exmouth Amateurs 7 - Central City 0
Central started well and a hard working team performance made it difficult
early on, for a good Exmouth side. Harvey Young had City's best attempts on
goal, although was restricted to long range efforts.
City started slipping behind just before the break and as the game went on,
Exmouth were just too strong for them.
Again City's defence never gave up and James Bryant in goal made several good
saves. Defenders Jaime Hammond and Toby Criss battled well and both George
O'Brien and Joshua Morris, came on and contributed well.
Saturday 20th September 2008
Central United 4 Hemyock 0
1st game of the season and early exchanges were cagey. The home side's passing
already shows tremendous improvement from last yearand Central began to get on
top through dogged endeavour in the midfield. Nathan Townsend displayed his
individual skills and managed to score 4.
Saturday 20th September 2008
Central United 2 - Cully Rangers 2
Grit and determination brought a well-deserved draw against a strong Cully side.
Unexpectedly, United managed to go 2 up thanks to Nathan Townsend and debutant
Talie Metcalfe Wood. The defence battled manfully to contain Cully for the rest
of match and special mention must go to debutant Luke Perry and also Will Wenley
in goal who pulled off a spectacular save late in the 2nd half.
