PINHOE WANDERERS 1 CENTRAL 6

The Central Team passed and attacked well in their first game of the season. Two goals in the first half for Edward Taylor were followed by two for Thomas McShane in the second. Joe Chamberlain and Tom Hart each scored to make a total of six!!! Pinhoe scored a late goal but this was a convincing start to the season.

PINHOE WARRIORS 3 CENTRAL 0

The Central team played well against good and well organised Warriors team. We were one goal down at half time having defended very well against a strong attack and when trying hard to equalise in the second half we were caught twice on the break when playing up the slope. The final score could have been closer.

CENTRAL 1 BRIXINGTON UTD 2

After two minutes of the first half we were two-nil down and the outlook was gloomy. To be fair the goals came from two excellent shots by the Brixington strikers. Then we woke up! There were good tackles to win the ball in midfield from Piers and Alex S., good running and shooting from Joe and Edward and a solid defence after the shaky start. A second half goal from Edward made for an exciting last few minutes as we pushed for an equaliser but it wouldn't come. A good effort from all the Central players after a slow start.

CENTRAL 1 BRIXINGTON BLUES 1

Good attacking and defensive play by both sides made this a good game to watch. There were lots of chances for both sides and the game was evenly matched 0-0 at half time. Brixington took the lead in the second half after a rebound from the crossbar fell to one of their players. No-one gave up and all kept running until the end when with a few minutes to go Edward leapt on a defensive error and poached an equaliser. This made for an exciting finish and either team could have got a late winner. In the end a draw was a good result against a team that beat us convincingly last season.

SIDMOUTH RAIDERS 0 CENTRAL 4

A fine performance from the Central team with strong runs from midfield and good finishing. Two goals from Edward Taylor and another from Joe Chamberlain had Central three up at the break with little threat at the other end. The second half was closer with Central attacking up the slope. Joe Chamberlain scored his second, the final goal of a convincing performance

SIDMOUTH WARRIORS 0 CENTRAL 1

This was a closer game with the defenders on both teams working hard and tackling bravely to keep it scoreless at half time. Strong defensive tackles from Martin Porter throughout the match were vital in keeping Central in the game. With the slope against us in the second half Edward Taylor scored late on to secure the teams second victory of the day.

CENTRAL 2 HEAVITREE ROCKETS 3
CENTRAL 1 HEAVITREE COMETS 0

Against the Rockets, Central had a tough game and were it not for the occasional lapse in concentration, the result might have been different. In parts, Central played magnificently with some fine passes and good off the ball running. Jo Chamberlain was sharp up front in both games, scoring all our goals including the winner agains the Comets. What we did show, in both games is what all teams need…

CULM UTD EAGLES 0 CENTRAL 2

In the first half with Central attacking up the slope there was some good play from the defenders Harlan Baro and Ben Fisk with Alex Davison in goal to keep the scores even at 0-0 at half time. After the break playing down the slope was more successful with Edward Taylor scoring two second half goals. Thomas McShane made a great save late in the game to keep a clean sheet.

HEMYOCK 3 CENTRAL 3

Again the slope had a major affect on this match. Central attacked downhill in the first half. Edward Taylor scored a hat trick before half time with two assists from Martin Porter from crosses. At half time we were 3-0 up. In the second half Hemyock had the benefit of the slope and used it to draw level with a few minutes remaining. We had some good efforts in the second half without scoring again but managed to hold on for a draw.

It should be noted that of the 8 goals scored in our games by both sides not one was scored playing uphill !!! It was particularly hard for some of our players to get forward as fast as they normally would when playing uphill and hard to defend against fast attacks coming downhill at us. A win and a draw was an excellent performance.

CENTRAL 2 NEWTON TOWN 2

The sides were evenly matched in this contest with Newton Town having the best of the first half with two goals to our one. Edward Taylor scoring for Central. The second half was far better from Central with some really good play and a good goal from Alex Sinclair, his first for Central. Although we were unlucky not to get another goal in the second half a draw was a fair result overall.

CENTRAL 1 ST MARTINS 4

This was a hard game against a big strong and organised team. Some excellent saves from Alex Davison and a well taken goal by Edward Taylor from a Tom McShane cross keeping us in the match only 2-1 down at half time. Despite some good defending St Martins scored twice more in the second half to take the win.

WEST HILL WASPS 0 CENTRAL 0

This game was very even and there were few chances for either team. Edward and Alex S. tried hard in attack but the Wasps defended well. There was good defence from Ben and Harlan in the first half and Alex D. in the second especially from corners which has been our weakness over recent weeks. Oscar, Alastair and Martin all worked hard in midfield tackling and passing really well. As well as organising the defence Tom made an excellent diving save late in the game to keep the scores level. This was a fair and good result against the team that knocked us out of the cup last year.

WEST HILL HORNETS 1 CENTRAL 2

This was the best attacking performance we have had in a very long time. Edward and Tom combined well in attack and Central took the lead early in the first half. There were a number of further chances in the first half in particular Martin hit the post twice, once after bringing the ball nearly the length of the pitch and Edward hit the bar with a well struck free kick. Our defence was a bit shaky at times and the Hornets equalised just before half time. There was not long to wait before Central again took the lead with Edward scoring again shortly after the start of the second half. There were a number of further chances on goal with Alastair and Tom providing some good crosses. Alex D. made a good low save with his legs late in the game to ensure a good win for Central.

CENTRAL 0 PINHOE WARRIORS 2

The play was evenly matched in the first half with the Warriors taking the lead through a well struck shot after Central failed to clear the ball from the area. Despite this Central had a number of shots and had several chances to level before half time but couldn’t finish them. The second half was similar with Pinhoe extending their lead after Central were unable to clear a dangerous corner. Again there were chances for Central to get back into the game but this was not our day. Well played Pinhoe!

After the cup match we played a friendly against the same team as a practice match. The pattern was similar to the first match with lots of cahnces and little in the way of result for Central. We didn't have the best of days but the team kept trying right to the end and we deserved a goal for effort.

CENTRAL 4 CREDITON SAINTS 2

The first half was even with Crediton taking the lead and Central coming level with an excellent goal from Alex Sinclair. At half time it was 1-1. Early in the second half Crediton took the lead again. Alex Davison made a brilliant save with Central 2-1 down to keep us in the game. Edward Taylor scored twice in a couple of minutes to turn the game around and put Central in the lead. Tom Hart finished off an excellent performance with a late goal to give an impressive 4-2 winning scoreline.

CENTRAL 2 MOORS YOUTH 5

Moors took an early lead and were soon 2-0 up. Joe Chamberlain and Alex Sinclair came close with good shots before Tom McShane and Charlie Brill scored for Central to make things level at 2-2 for the break. The second half was tough with Moors scoring three further times to take the win. Overall the game was closer than the scoreline suggests.

CENTRAL 3 STOKE HILL 4

Against Stoke Hill an excellent first half hat-trick from Edward Taylor should have made this a good game for Central. All three goals came from excellent approach play with good passing and crosses from Tom Hart, Alex Sinclair and Martin Porter. Unfortunately it was not a good defensive day for us with Stoke Hill finishing well to take the win.

CENTRAL 3 BEACON KNIGHTS 6

In the game against Beacon Knights there were three good goals for Central in the first half. A brace from Tom Hart and one from Alex Sinclair with a rare and valuable goal from our midfield. Defensively again this was not a great game for us with the Knights netting three times in each half.

CULLOMPTON HURRICANES 1 CENTRAL 3

On a windy morning the Central team started well taking an early lead through a well made team goal scored by Joe Chamberlain. The rest of the first half was closely fought between the teams with the Hurricanes levelling the scores before half time. The second half saw Central push on for the win with further goals from Charlie Brill and Edward Taylor. There were lots of positives to take from the game with excellent crosses from Alistair Thomson and good goalkeeping from Oscar Petherick in the second half.

CULLOMPTON TORNADOS 3 CENTRAL 4

The second game was similar to the first with a goal from Joe Chamberlain our highlight in the first half and the sides level at the break. Central started the second half strongly with another goal from Joe Chamberlain taking the lead which was increased by Edward Taylor and Tom McShane to 4-1. There were a few nerves as the Tornadoes pulled two goals back late in the game. Central held on for their second win of the day.

CENTRAL 3 ALPHINGTON 1

Alphington started strongly in dreadful weather conditions but it was the pace of Central's striker pair that found the net first. Edward Taylor scored twice either side of Joe Chamberlain’s goal with Alphington scoring a consolation late on from a wicked deflection. A confident performance from Thomas McShane in the Central goal sealed an excellent win.

CENTRAL 1 WEST EXE 4

West Exe performed well and led 2-0 at half time despite hard work from the Central defence. An early goal in the second half from midfielder Martin Porter brought Central back into the game for a time but West Exe pushed on for the win with two further goals.

CENTRAL 8 FENITON WASPS 0

Central were on top throughout the game scoring six goals in the wind assisted first half. Joe Chamberlain scored a first half hat-trick, Alastair Thomson grabbed a brace of strikes and Tom McShane also netted. The second half was harder playing into strong wind and driving rain but Central added two more well worked goals through Martin Porter and Alex Sinclair to give the team their best win of the season.

CENTRAL 2 FENITON HORNETS 1

They say that luck evens out over the season and that may be true as Central won this game in tough weather conditions. Central were 1-0 down at half time having had the advantage of the wind in the first half and not being able to convert any of our chances. Feniton had the best of the chances in the second half but with a good measure of luck and good finishing with goals from Joe Chamberlain and Alastair Thomson Central took the win.

CENTRAL 0 PINHOE WARRIORS 7ish

I wasn’t sure if the final score was six or seven! The weather was so bad it was hard to keep track. After starting well in the first half playing 9 a side Pinhoe scored twice to be 2-0 up at half time. Our chances came from Alastair and Martin who hit the side netting. The second half was our worst for a long time with Pinhoe dominating with one attack after another. Tom did well in goal to keep out as many as he did as we fell apart in defence. To be fair two of their goals came from deflections – one off the backside of one of their players!

Nick

CENTRAL 2 PINHOE WANDERERS 1

A better performance with two first half goals for Central. Charlie poached his strike after Martin crossed and the goalie couldn’t hold Tom's shot. Tom then followed up with a good strike from the edge of the area. Again the weather was hard on the players with cold driving rain throughout the game. Pinhoe scored in the second half by which time some of our players were suffering with the cold.
