Central Reds 1 St Martins 2

Although the Reds lost both games, there was a great deal to be pleased about. Against St Martins, we really
began to play as a team – Joe Chamberlain and Martin Porter excelling in midfield. This fine midfield passing and sharp
shooting from Edward Taylor and Harry Saunders might have been rewarded by more goals.
In the event, fate was unkind as St Martins had a very tame goal just before half time
– after some fine goal-keeping earlier by Thomas McShane. In the second, the Reds fought back and Edward’s fine
shot from the right beat their goal-keeper to score the equaliser. St Martins battled on and scored a magnificent goal from a
good cross. Again we battled on and could have equalized if we had been more fortunate. Very exciting.

Central Reds 1 Countess Wear 2
The game against Countess Wear was peculiar. A classic cross and headed goal from a Martin Porter gave the
Reds the early lead. What then went wrong? Difficult to say, but in this second consecutive match the Reds certainly tired and
our tackling suffered allowing Countess Wear to equalise and then take the lead. What was great to watch was that the Reds
didn’t lose heart, didn’t start fouling, but continued to control the ball, look up and pass the ball well.

Central 1 Heavitree Rockets 0
1st Rnd of Cup
There were many magical moments in this our first cup game of the season. With 10 players available, we used
the rolling substitute rule to our advantage. As one team member tired, on came his replacement. As a result, our team flew from
start to finish. Fine forward play by Harry Saunders and Edward Taylor could have been rewarded by many more goals.

Edward's fine strike towards the end of the first half looked to be saved but was simply
diverted by the goal keeper into the top of the net. Alex Davison, Ben Fisk and Harlen Baro directed by our reliable goalkeeper
Thomas McShane, were rock solid in defence leaving very few opportunities for Heavitree to get back. However, our strength today
was in midfield with Oscar Petherick, Joe Chamberlain and Martin Porter all passing well and driving forward

Heavitree Comets & Rockets v Central Reds
Two matches as different as chalk and cheese. On the one hand, against Heavitree’s A team, the Comets,
the reds struggled to put any passing sequences together, mainly due to the opposition’s strength in midfield. No surprise,
then, when Heavitree took the lead. A goal by Edward Taylor raised his team’s spirits, only to be dashed by an excellent
goal from the Comets which sealed their victory. On the other hand, the match against the Rockets was a joy to watch. Thomas
McShane, out of goal and now playing sweeper. was key to the Reds fine passing and attacking play.
Edward Taylor scored twice but could have scored several more. Joe Chamberlain and Thomas
McShane also got onto the score sheet after some fine short pass movements. Alex Davison was naturally upset by a altogether
bizarre goal which owed a lot to the whole goal moving to one side allowing the ball to slip into the back of the net!
After today Central Reds realise that they have good and bad spells, or, as one could put it, Rocket or Comet
moments!
