Central U 14s started off with a good win against a rejuvenated Westhill. Westhill over the summer had picked up several
new players and showed that they were not a side to be taken lightly as they were first to score via a long ball to their
centre forward who showed power and strength to shrug off Luke Howlett and Ross Clotworthy to score the opener.
Central then piled on the pressure with the midfield partnership of Patrick Clark and Ayed Omari beginning
to show dominance laying the ball in the path of Joe for a well taken equaliser. The two Central strikers, Jack Leech and
Jarod Bradley playing together for the first time then showed their strength and power by wrestling the ball away from the
shell shocked Westhill defence to pile in another 4 goals in quick succession.
Westhill failed to clear their lines on a number of occasions and were punished again by Central as Patrick Clark seized
on a loose ball to finish well to make the score 6 – 1 at half time.
Our new goalkeeper Dan Phillips came off at half time through injury being replaced by Aaron Hunt and
Aiden Murphy and Sam Philpott came in midfield and defence repacing the two Joe’s. All credit to Westhill as they came
out in the second half with a couple of substitutes and played the more attacking football and well deserved their second
goal via a cross/come shot. Ayed Omari dropped deeper to help the defence and on a number of occasions took the ball from
defence to attack showing he hadn’t lost his lightening pace even though he had grown several inches over the summer!
Aaron Hunt made a number of excellent saves to keep Westhill at bay and near to the end of the match Patrick Clark took
the ball from midfield to finish in the top corner for a final result of 7 – 2.
Man of the Match Jarod Bradley scored a hat trick and made a real nuisance of himself (no change there!)
Central 3 Alphington 4
Both teams had not had a game for several weeks, so they were keen to put in
a good performance. Central started the first half brightly, Robert Kirk and Jack Leech playing together up front for the
first time linked well but did not get many chances to shoot as the Alphington defenders were well organised and closed
down our players well. The first ten to fifteen minutes was pretty even with Central probably shading it on possession,
until an Alphington striker pounced on an unlucky deflection to put Alphington 0 - 1 up.
Central continued to press but lacked that cutting edge
and again were punished by failing to clear their lines and Alphington finished well to make it 0 - 2 at half time.
The highlight of the first half had to be Dan Phillip’s save after a pulsating Alphington move led to a brilliant
shot from the edge of the box - Dan "the cat" somehow managed to reach the ball and deflect it onto the cross bar
and the rebound was cleared - the save wouldn't have looked out of place in any arena.

Sam Philpot felt ill at half time and Joe Harrison
'volunteered' to take his central defence role which meant that Joe Van Doorslaer being press ganged into left back.
Ross Clotworthy wanted to go in right back, releasing lightening Luke Howlett forward to right wing and Aaron Hunt
replacing Robert Kirk up front. Joe Van Doorslaer looked rusty for the first ten minutes, as he was finding it difficult
to pick up the pace of the game, however when he got going he battled hard and played really well in an unfamiliar position.
As suspected early in the second half an Alphington player weaved through several half tackles and finished well to make
it 0 - 3 to Alphington. I kind of thought, omg, we are going to be stuffed!

However, Jack Leech and Aaron Hunt kept up the pressure and a fine cross from
Patrick Clark onto Jack Leech's head for a superb finish 1 - 3. Five minutes later as Central continued to press
and won a corner and from the corner the ball came off Aaron's back for a goal 2 - 3. Patrick Clark and Ed Hammond in
midfield kept hassling for the ball laying it in the path of Aaron who was fouled in the penalty area. Ed 'the captain'
took charge and cooly finished off the penalty 3 -3. Not that I play LMA 2007, FIFA 2007 or even Pro evo 6, who needs
it when you watch a game like that!

Unfortunately, Alphington sneeked one in at the end to make it 3 - 4 but we actually played our socks off and credit to all the team. Well done.
Man of the match Patrick Clark another awesome midfield display.

Westhill 1 Central 8
Weather was fine and the ground nice and soft but bumpy and there was quite
a slope which we elected to play upwards in the first half. Coach Tim
decided to play an adventurous 3-5-2 formation with Ian Tucker debuting as a
holding midfielder and Jarod Bradley returning up front after missing a few
weeks.
After a fairly even opening 10 mins with both sides struggling with their
first touch, Central began to exert some pressure and Ed Hammond opened the
scoring from a Jack Leech throw. 10 mins later the lead was doubled as Jack
Leech got his first from a Patrick Clark through ball. Then Jarod Bradley
scored a simple tap in, after Westhill failed to deal with a Patrick Clark
corner and Jack Leech got his second with a strong chest down and volley.
Against the run of play West Hill then scored to make it 1- 4 at half time.
Coach Tim shuffled his pack again - Dan Phillips was allowed out of goal to
go up front being replaced by Jack (not very willing at all) Martin, Ian
Tucker dropped into defence and Owen Carter came on for Jack Jennings -
3-4-4 formation now! Playing down the hill proved quite tricky and
frustrating as there was plenty of possession but the ball was hard to keep
on the pitch. After about 10 mins Jack Leech completed his hat trick running
on to a through ball and it was deja vu 5 mins later as he converted another
from a Patrick Clark pass.
Then came Dan Phillips moment of glory, as he got
the chance to convert a fortuitous penalty as Ross (it wasn't a pen honest)
Clotworthy fell over an outstretched leg - Dan gave the goalie "the eye" and
side footed the ball wide of the post! With Central losing their shape as
individuals went for goal, the game became very scrappy and untidy, Westhill
were becoming frustrated and Central lost their concentration it was not
pleasant to watch,
However, there was still time for Ed Hammond to lob the
keeper for his second and Jack Leech to get his fifth from a Ross Clotworthy
pass to make the final score 1-8.
Ian Tucker was MOM after an impressive debut snuffing out most of West
Hill's attacks linking impressively with Jack Martin in a strong centre
defensive partnership. Well done Ian and welcome to Central.

Central 3 Brixington Utd 5
They say the sun shines on the righteous but it also shines on Central U14s
- this match was played in fairly warm and sunny conditions but the pitch
was quite bumpy. For the second week running a referee failed to turn up but
this being a cup quarter-final this was even more unfortunate - a Brixington
Utd coach reffed the first half and Coach Tim the second. Brixington have
some large, physical players and might have proven a challenge for any
referee.
The first 15 minutes were very even as the two teams sized each other up.
The first real chance fell as an Owen Carter cross bobbled through to Ross
Clotworthy on the far post - he took one touch to control it and placed his
shot confidently just inside the post. The lead lasted 5 mins and then
Brixington's power began to show and they took advantage of comparatively
hesitant defending to score 4 goals before half time. At some point in the
build up Central had chances to clear three of the goals but failed and were
punished.
Second half was a different affair as Brixington soon brought on some
substitutes and rested on their lead. Central had a lot of possession and
pressure but found the Brixington defence quite robust. Aaron Hunt was
unlucky when his shot was well saved by the goalie and Patrick Clark swung
in a free kick that just missed the far post. Ross Clotworthy had to
replaced by Robert Kirk after he received an elbow to the head from the
Brixington goalie. A fine run from Patrick Clark finally led to an
individual goal to bring the score to 2-4. Any chance of a revival was
thwarted a few minutes later as Brixington produced an unstoppable finish in
the top corner. Just before the end Jarod Bradley produced an excellent
volley from well outside the box to make the final score 3-5.
This was a physical game of a level Central were not used to but by the end
they had begun to match their first division opponents and give them a few
scares as a result

Central 6 Civil Service 0
This match was played on sunny but cool morning on a rock hard KGV pitch
that would make flowing football difficult. Thanks should go to Ian Tucker's
dad who stood in as referee as there was another no show from the official ref.
Central started with the rare luxury of two substitutes and the match was
even with both defences struggling to clear their lines and suffering
periods of pressure. Central opened the scoring with a slightly lucky goal -
an Ed Hammond through ball bounced over the Civil goalie and into the goal
closely followed by Ben Grayson and Jarod Bradley desperately trying to get
a touch. After another fairly even period a break down the right led to a
teasing cross that evaded everyone apart from central defender Sam Philpott
who blasted the ball in from level with the far post. Sam missed the chance
to get his second after his header just missed the post from a corner.
Central were happy to go in at half-time 2-0 as Civil had looked quite
dangerous in attack.
Owen Carter and Luke Howlett came on in the second half but Owen only lasted
5 minutes before a knee injury forced him off. The second half would be
broken up by a series of offside decisions against Central but in a rare
break that was legal Jarod Bradley's one on one with the goalie resulted in
a fine finish off the far post. Joe Harrison then nodded in after a free
kick and a fine Patrick Clark run ended with an exquisite chip into the top
corner from the edge of the box just before the defenders closed him down.
The scoring was completed by an excellent blast inside the near post by a
deserving Ben Grayson to make the final score 6-0. Goalie Dan Phillips and
the central defensive partnership of Esben Ronan and Sam Philpott should be
especially proud to keep a clean sheet as they were tested on a number of
occasions but restricted Civil to just a handful of half chances. 6 goals
from 6 different scorers showed this was a good team effort.
This was the
third time Central had faced Civil this season and this was by far the
hardest game and showed that Civil must have put in a lot of hard work in
during the season and the improvements in both fitness and skill were
noticeable.
Man of the Match was difficult but was awarded to Ian Tucker for a combative
and competent performance in a couple of positions he was asked to cover
(and not because Coach Tim was grateful for his dad reffing).

Central 1 Stoke Hill Celtic 1
Stoke Hill Celtic are an excellent passing team and worthy of being top of the League,
they needed one point from this match to clinch the league, so they were clearly up for the challenge. Last match we
played them it was like chasing shadows, one minute they were there and the next the ball was in the back of the net,
So we needed some divine inspiration! This came from the fact that for the first time this season we could put out
pretty much the strongest team we had available and whilst Roderick (Ross?) might try and claim the kudos for the formation, as
I am writing the match report it was clearly my idea! We knew we had to close them down and then hit long balls for
Jarod and Jack to use their strength to muscle in, so we chose 3 central defenders and two wingbacks with Ben, Ed and
Paddy in centre midfield to close down the ball and prevent them passing through us.
I think Stoke Hill were surprised at our resilience and the first goal
came from the 'headless chicken' Ben Grayson who ran tirelessly the whole match and effectively bullied his way to the
ball early in the first half to slam home a well deserved lead to Central. Credit to Stoke Hill who persevered with
their passing game and put our defence under severe pressure at times with one shot being cleared off the line by a
heroic Ross when Dan had parried the first shot. Dan made some further excellent saves and Ian, Sam and Jack Martin
battled like Trojans to keep the 'swarm' at bay to keep the score at 1 - 0 at half time.
Second half Aaron came on for Ross, Stoke Hill had the bit between
their teeth and with the slope of the pitch helping they attacked with pace and precision passing to be denied on a
number of occasions by Dan who played a blinder in goal. Half way through the half Paddy was taken out in their penalty
area (has the bruise to prove it) but the ref was too far away to award it and things started to get a bit niggly, Joe
Harrison got booked for an unassuming comment and a number of fouls were committed,
However, we held out until ten minutes to go when a through ball
released a Stoke Hill Striker who finished clinically to make it 1 - 1. Luke came on for Joe who was still pleading his
innocence and we held out for a well deserved draw. Man of the Match: Dan Phillips for a near perfect display in Goal.

Central 4 Countess Wear 5
It feels like we just took the nets down from the midweek match against Stoke Hill
Celtic and we are putting them back up again for another tough match!
Previous game with CWD was a complete disaster, I think we let the first goal in in 34 seconds and
got absolutely annilated 8 - 1 so we had to look again to the heavens for some extra help. I think for the first ten
minutes of this match he was obviously watching another match as, yet again, we could not deal with the long ball over
the top and the pace of the Dynamoes' striker, as we lost 3 goals and also more importantly in a clash, Dan Phillips
was stretchered off (didn't have a stretcher but you know what I mean) with a suspected broken big toe (now confirmed,
out of action for 8 weeks). I thought hear we go again for another thrashing, Jack Leech obviously was singing
from a different hymn sheet as I was scratching and shaking my head down one end of the pitch Jack scored two goals in
quick succession down the other - game on!
Aaron came on for Dan and Ed swapped a midfield role for defence with Ian Tucker
moving into midfield and we suddenly looked in control of the game and all players tails were up and we piled on the
pressure and it remained 3 -2 at half time.
Aaron was really up for it in goal and was out like a flash to stifle the long ball
and Ian like a terrier was snapping at their heals, however against the run of play Dynamoes scored again to make it 4 - 2.
Then Jarod took the occy and fired one in from long range 4 - 3, Jack missed a couple of golden opportunities to level
the score and then Dynamoes scored again. Esben was asleep on his feet after a sleepover party so Sam came on with fresh
legs and power and hit a long ball for Jarod to latch onto to finishing well to make it 5 - 4. Unfortunately the ref
blew the whistle before we had a chance to score any more and win the game, so we narrowly lost but again this match
shows how well the team has developed and the lads can be proud of themselves - I am!
Man of the match: Aaron Hunt was really up for it being composed and confident, well done

Colyton Reds 2 Central 3
And so it came to pass that this season finally came to an end with an away trip
to Colyton Reds. There are two pitches in Colyton and all the drivers went to wrong one before being redirected to a
scenic pitch by the River Coly – it was good thing the kick off had been delayed by half an hour. The day was sunny
and warm but the pitch was hard and bumpy and led to several shanks and slices by both sides.
Coach Tim was absent but considering it was a bank holiday weekend Coach Paul
had the luxury of three substitutes to bring on – and he was going to need all of them. Game started off brightly with
Central enjoying quite a bit of possession but both defences were playing well and Aaron Hunt in Central goal was
in particularly confident mood. Jarod Bradley was giving the Colyton defence a good harrying but Jack Leech was a bit
hampered after picking up a knock (in the car park outside KGV!!!). Jack Leech eventually broke the deadlock with a
fine finish after he and Jarod had bulldozed their way into the box. Patrick Clark came on forcing the first reshuffle
and Central lost their way a bit and Colyton put some pressure on. The equaliser came after an Aaron clearance fell
nicely for Colyton and the defence failed to react – a perfect lob over Aaron was the result. Fortunately just before
half-time good work by Patrick Clark on the bye line set up Jarod Bradley who passed the ball into the far corner
giving the goalie no chance. Central went in at half-time 1-2 up.
The second half would be a disjointed affair for Central as first Esben Ronan and
then his central defending partner Sam Philpott (who picked up a nasty knee injury and was carried off) had to be
substituted and Ian Tucker and Ed Hammond would fill several different positions during the game. Colyton did manage
to equalise during this period and the game was heading towards a draw which would probably have pleased both coaches.
This was not to be as Robert Kirk, with what turned out to be the last attack, pressurised the goalie and the ball
fell invitingly for Jarod to snatch the winner.
An excellent way to complete the season and it was an all round team performance
from all the 14 players which was the most pleasing aspect. Ed Hammond was awarded man of the match for playing well
in three or four different positions.

Central 2 FC Lakers 6
Coach Tim had thought that he was going to have a well earned break for the Summer but not quite yet
as we entertained a touring FC Lakers from Gloucester down at Bromhams Farm. Weather was fine but with a significant side wind - the grass
was long and kept the ball in play. This was played over half-term so there were a few absentees so Ben Burak made a guest appearance as did
Luke Abrahams. With Dan still injured and Aaron away, Jack Martin eagerly (not) picked up the goalie gloves.

The game started evenly as both teams felt each other out but FC Lakers began to have success down
their right and eventually this led to the opening goal. This was cancelled out as a fine lobbed pass from Joe Van Doorslauer fed Ben Burak
who, in turn, successfully lobbed the excellent Lakers goalie. The game was quite open with plenty of shots at goal by both sides. Lakers retook
the lead as they found an unmarked man in the box. Just before half-time Ben Burak went on a mazy run beating four players and slotting past
the goalie - 2-2 at half time

Whatever Lakers were fed at half-time worked well and they scored almost straight away - they had
three or four strong, direct forwards and for the first time they were all on the pitch at the same time. Central continued to create
chances but the normal passing movements were replaced by individual long range efforts which were either too near the goalie
or off target - Laker's pace and strength in contrast added three more goals. Jack Martin had by this time handed the goalie gloves to an even more
reluctant Joe Van Doorslauer. Final score 2-6. Now maybe Coach Tim can get his rest - apart from that tournament
in Colyton next weekend of course.

Man of the Match was Ed Hammond for causing chaos on the right-wing.
