| UNDER 9s CUP FINAL - CENTRAL CITY 1 EXWICK 1 (aet) Central City capped a fine season ending joint winners of the Exeter Friendly league U9s Challenge cup drawing 1-1 after extra time with Exwick. Exwick started strongly putting Central under pressure but found the defensive pairing of Will Tutchings and Reece Allen tough to get past. Thomas Roome dropped back to help soak up the pressure and whilst Exwick won a few corners, all were dealt with quite comfortably by Jake Newman. Central grew in confidence as the game progressed and were unlucky to be a goal behind to a speculative shot. Central showed great character and this simply strengthened their attacking resolve. Central had much possession, which they used wisely in midfield with some terrific passing between Sebastian Lewis, Jim Shepherd and Thomas Roome. With just 5 minutes of normal time remaining Central got their reward when Bradley Down found time on the ball after receiving it on the half way line, looked up and seeing his chance fired a rocket of a shot skyward. The ball seemed to hang in the air for an age before plummeting down just under the Exwick crossbar and above the keepers outstretched arms. Central looked like going on to clinch it in extra time but Exwick defended well and prevented Central from many shooting chances. At the final whistle, 14 tired and hot looking boys deserved to share the prize. Team: Reece Allen, Bradley Down, Sebastian Lewis, Jake Newman, Thomas Roome, Jim Shepherd, Will Tutchings ![]() |
