Richard's Pre-season Synopsis from Last Season

I'm Richard Somerwill and I have been with the under13s in some capacity or another since they were 6 or 7 years old. At under 11 age group we were spilt into 2 sides, Reds mainly being the younger boys.Despite being very young for their age group every year, the boys have had a fair degree of success and play a good passing game without relying on any specific stars.

Central under 13s step up for the new season following a steady first year of 11 a side football. It was a mixed bag of results- some great results- 5-4 at Brixington and 4-0 at Bow were highlights- but many will remember the season for the lack of lucky breaks- some games we dominated and lost and suffered equalisers deep into injury time.

With some luck we would have finished in the top 3. However, in defeat it has always been a good learning experience for the boys- you learn far more from a narrow defeat than a 10-0 win. We finished 7th in a league of 14, which can’t be bad though. The boys enjoyed their football and turned up regularly for evening training sessions. We are working with what is basically the same group of boys we had at under 8 level. There are areas of the game that we know we need to improve if we want to challenge for the league- greater aggression including being more ruthless in front of goal, greater movement off the ball and better communication.

Good luck to the boys and thank you to my fellow coaches Yours in sport,

Richard
