St Martins 2 - 0Central Spitfires

Earlier in the season St Martins crushed the Spitfires 9-1 however through every Spitfire giving 100% effort and showing a great discipline to the team tactics, Spitfires gave St Martins a very competitive game and in the end were unlucky not get something out of the game.

With the Spitfires lining up 4-1-4-1 they managed to restrict St Martins attacking play and when St martins did manage to brake throughout they found Spitfires goal keeper Joe Tucker was in great form.

St martins took the lead halfway throughout the first half but the Spitfires continued to give 100% and were rewarded with a penalty 5 mins before half time, however despite George Kiloh managing to beat the keeper he saw his shot strike post and rebound out of the pitch. St martins quickly went up the other end of the pitch and increased their lead to 2 0 at half time.

However in the second half instead of St martins running away with game it was Spitfires who had the beast to chances the 1st being a Beckhamest! 25 yard shot from Aled Rosser who saw his shot beat the keeper and again hit the post and roll along the goal line but then cleared by a St martins defender. The 2nd chance saw the hard working sole striker George Kiloh hit a sweet left footed angle shot past the keeper and unfortunately brush the out side of the post.

The game ended 2 - 0 but great praise to all the Spitfires players especially the back 4 lead by captain Matt Heggaton, and Man of the Match Kieron Wright- Brown.

Central Spitfires 3 Pinhoe Spartans 2

The Spitfires recorded their first home win of the season with an excellent fighting display against Pinhoe. The visitors were the first to score after 20 minutes and were slightly the better team in the first half. However after the break the Central team looked far more confident and the more promising in front of goal. Aled Rosser opened the Spitfires account following a good move on the left and 5 minutes later Brendon Head, who was beginning to control the midfield, scored his first of the season and the Spitfires second of the game. The Central team now looked to be in control of the match. Kai Little who was the hardest working player on either team scored a deserved goal and the Spitfires third with about 15 minutes left on the clock. The Spitfires continued to create chances but had to weather some increased pressure from Pinhoe during the last 10 minutes. The visitors did score again with 5 minutes left to play, but with Joe Tucker in excellent form in goal for the Spitfires, it was too little too late.

Heavitree Youth 0 - 2 Central Spitfires

The first 20 minutes of this match between the two bottom teams in the division was an even contest, both teams battled hard shared posesion but with no real opportunities occurring. The Spitfires had changed their shape for this match playing a 3-5-2 formation in a hope to pack the midfield, and with 25 minutes on the clock James Parsons ran through on goal to slot home the Spitfires first and his 4th of the season.

After the break Central made a couple of substitutions and George Kiloh came on to scored with his first touch of the ball following some excellent work from James Parsons battling for the ball. From this point on Central looked the more likely to go on and win the game. Joe Tucker in the Central goal made a couple of excellent saves towards the end of the game to keep a clean sheet but it was a real team effort that saw the Spitfires record only their second win of the season.

Central Spitfires 0 - 4 Central Scorpions

Both Central teams met in the league for the second time this season and it was again the Scorpions who ran out winners. The Spitfires had a couple of players absent through injury and proved no match for their club rivals.

With a strong wind behind the Spitfires in the first half they knew they needed to score to have any realistic chance of winning the game, and although they tested Elliot Watts, the Scorpions keeper on a couple of occasions, they lacked any real threat. The Scorpions also had their chances in a relatively even first half and managed to scramble a goal just before the break.

In the second half and now with the wind at their backs the Scorpions look much the more likely to score as they pushed their club colleagues back into their own half. 3 further goals came as a result of this the pressure with the best coming from the right foot of Tom Mitchell who blasted a shot into the top right-hand corner of the Spitfires goal. The Spitfires were no threat in the second half and barely managed a shot in goal.

Broadclyst 5 - 2 Central Spitfires

The Spitfires bow out of this years cup competition in the first round following a hard fought match away to higher league opposition. It took Broadclyst 15 minutes to break down the Central defence but they opened the scoring with a wonderful strike just outside the Spitfires area. Chances on goal were few for Central but there was always a danger that they would be able to hit Broadclyst on the break. The Broadclyst second came from a poorly defended corner when the ball was delivered to the near post and the Spitfires keeper and defenders were slow to react.

After the break the game opened up and Brendon Head went on a fantastic run beating 4 players to open up the Broadclyst defence, he then played in James Parsons who coolly slotted the ball past the Braodclyst goalie to pull one back for the visitors. Broadclyst then scored again before James McClay played a ball over the top of the Broadclyst defence for James Parsons to lob the keeper for his second. At 3-2 it was all to play for but Broadclyst proved to strong for Central adding a forth goal from a period of increased pressure on the Central goal. A mistake from a goal kick then made it easy for Broadclyst to add a fifth just before the end of the match.

Central Spitfires 0 - 7 West Exe

The division leaders proved far to strong for their hosts in this very one sided encounter. The Spitfires went into the game looking to extend their unbeaten run to 3 games but it took just 4 minutes for West Exe to take the lead and even at that early stage of the game the Central team looked to give up the fight. West Exe pasted the ball with relative ease around the pitch and created chance after chance in front of the Central goal. Joe Tucker, the Spitfires goalie pulled out a number a excellent saves which kept the half time score to a reasonable 0-3.
After the break the home team looked slightly more organised but it wasn't enough to make any real impression on proceedings as West Exe continued to control the game and ran out worthy winners.

Saturday 3rd October 2009
Central Spitfires 1 - 1 Heavitree Youth

A Central team with 4 key players missing were hosts to a Heavitree Youth side who last season won the corresponding fixture 0-17 but the visitors were not going to have things all their own way this season as the Spitfires showed just how much improvement they have made over the past 12 months. Both teams looked evenly matched during the early exchanges although it was the home team that created the best chances. James McClay went close with a long range effort and James Parsons missed the target on 3 occasions before he finally managed to lob the Heavitree keeper from the edge of the penalty area to give Central a 1-0 half time advantage.
The second half saw Heavitree throw everything they had at the Spitfires and they came close to scoring on a couple of occasions before some good work from one of the Heavitree forwards rewarded the away side with an equaliser with 20 minutes to go. Again the away side looked to push forward for the winner but it was the Spitfires that had the better chances towards the end of the match as they tried to exploit the gaps that were now appearing in the Heavitree defence as they played further and further up the pitch.

Exwick 0 - 0 Central Scorpions

A very good team effort was not enough to overcome the defence of Exwick. Good chances were few and the Central side just couldn't find the back of the net. Steady defensive work marshalled by temporary captain Tom Mitchell and goal keeper Elliott Watts made sure that Exwick weren't having the three points either. Peace Kongolo was man of the match.

Exwick 1 - 2 Central Spitfires

The Spitfires recorded their first win of the season away at Exwick. There was nothing between the two teams during the early exchanges until a good move down the right hand side by Central resulted in a through ball to Aled Rosser. The chance looked to have been lost following some poor ball control but Aled recovered and coolly knock the ball in to the Exwick goal. The second half was much the same with both teams battling hard. Again a move up the right resulted in the ball falling for Rosser just inside the box, Aled struck the ball superbly from an acute angle straight over the Exwick keeper. Despite the score Central weren't having it all their own way and needed to be at their best defensively. Exwick scored their goal from an excellent free kick taken just outside the box which passed through a crowded goal area into the Central net, but the Spitfires held on to the lead and were looking strong before the final whistle.

Central Scorpions 5 - 2 Central Spitfires

A Close fought game in the first half in which Spitfires took the lead, Scorpions equalised through Tom Mitchell and Spitfires took the lead again before Scorpions were back on level terms just after half time with a goal from Robbie Knightly. The remainder of the second half the contest was fairly even until Scorpions took a desisive 3-2 lead from a goal by Chris Bayliss. The victory was sealed with two excellent goals in the last 10 minutes from TJ Chambers and Sarabjeet Singh.
