Pinhoe 4-0 Central

Central Redstars winning run was brought to an abrupt end by an accomplished display by high flying Pinhoe. The first half was a played with both teams matching each other throughout the pitch and with both sides creating goal scoring opportunities, how ever it was Pinhoe who took a 1 0 lead into half time.

The second half saw Pinhoe increase their dominance in the game over a tiring Redstar team who could not keep up their excellent workload from the first half. Pinhoe scored a further 3 goals to win the game 4 0. The last goal was an excellent half volley from the edge of the area in the last mintue. Redstars best 2nd half chance fell to James Deshapland but he saw his shot cleared off the line by Pinhoes Jamie Woods. On a hard bobbly pitch and in bright sunshine Redstar could not recreate the their excellent recent form but one player stood out heads and shoulders above his team mates and that was the Joe Moran who produced a powerhouse display at centre back. Redstar must now regroup and lift themselves for their final 2 games of the season.

Feniton 1 - 2 Central

Central beat Fention for the first ever time and in turn managed to win back to back matches also for the first time this season.

The first half saw a confident Central play some of their best football this season to totally dominate the half creating numerous goal scoring opportunities, without their goal being put under very little attack. However despite the total dominance Central went into half time only 1 0 up courtesy of leading goal score Ben Harrills headed goal.

The second half saw a much a closer game with the wind and slope now in the favour of Feniton the game became more end to end.

Central were soon to pay for not taking full advantage of their 1st half performance and see Feniton equalise through a well taken freekick on the back a harshly given free kick on the edge of the area.

To their great credit Central rallied and retook the lead once again through Ben Harrill to secure their second 3 points in two weeks.

Great credit should be again given to all the players but Mark Hattersly was Centrals man of the match after being asked to play in 3 different positions throughout the game and producing a faultless display.

Saturday 27th Feb 2010
Sidmouth 1 - 2 Central

CENTRAL REDSTAR produced their best performance of the season to beat a high flying Sidmouth team

The Central team arrived to find total disorganisation, with a mini football match already on the pitchthey were meant to be playing on, no referee and a changing room with no seats!

Despite this a phone call to Chief referee Andy Vernal by Central, the game kicked off 30 minutes late with Andy arriving to take control 10 minutes into the game!

The Central team started with more desire and fair commitment than Sidmouth and took the lead resulting from a great 30yard pass from Ben Harrill to Jacob Carah who slotted the ball into the corner of the net.

The rest of the first half saw both sides cope well with the very narrow sticky pitch!

The second half saw Sidmouth equalise however it was Central who galvanised as a team to retake the lead with Harry Mcra Smith being brought down by the Sidmouth goal keeper resulting from him dropping the slippery ball. Jacob Carah stood firm to confidently score from the penalty kick.

The final 15 minutes saw both sides fully committed to see out the game victors, it also saw the Sidmouth management and some supporters shall we say getting rather hot under the collar questioning what seemed every refereeing and the Central linesman decision!!

The final whistle was met with great excitement of the Central players who on the day each and everyone were Men of the Match.

To summarise despite the total disorganisation and the fact Sidmouth only had 2No match balls which were cleared over the 2m high hedge 3m from the touchline resulting in Central having to provide 3 further balls to see the game to a finish I as Manager was very proud of the conduct and attitude of every Central player

Saturday 13th Feb 2010
Central 0 - 4 Tiverton Town

The Central team missing 3 of its strongest players, feared the worst prior to kick off with Tiverton just coming of their 6th straight victory with a 12 - 0 victory over Broadclyst who had just beaten Central in the cup!

However with combination of a 100% committed performance from every Central player and some poor finishing from Tiverton the game was more competitive than Central feared.

The first half saw Central struggle to get the ball out of their own half to their sole striker Jacob Carah who worked tirelessly trying to shut the supply form the Tiverton defence.

Central held out until the 20 minute mark before Tiverton took the lead, within the next 10min Tiverton had increased their lead to 3 0, which was the score at half time.

The second half showed their great character reducing to Tiverton to just 1 more goal and actually seeing Jacob Carah have 2 or 3 long range shots on the Tiverton goal.

With every Central player giving their all especially Joe Moran, George Goodchild & Alex Green, the man of match went to James Henson who was playing in the hole just in front of the back four was strong and disciplined in his performance.

On a more serious note there is no way that Tiverton Town should have been placed in League 2 as a punishment because it is every other team in the league who are the one ones being punished as I strongly expect Tiverton not to drop a single point this season!

Saturday 6th Feb 2010
Central 3 - 1 Tedburn

Central Redstar managed to complete the double over the hard working Tedburn team, with their best performance of the season.

With both teams at the wrong end of the table this was a classic " 6 pointer" but it was Central who took control of the game in the first half with 2 well taken goals by leading goal score Ben Harrill, the first a sharp finish from an excellent through ball from James Slater and the second long effort looping over the keeper.

Soon after the second started Tedburn got back into the game with a penalty thus setting up a frilling last half hour.

With both sides looking for that all important next goal, Centrals defence and goal keeper stood strong lead by the "Man of the match performance" from Mark Hattersly in the centre of the defence.

It was Central who managed to score with a well struck finish from Alex Green, his second goal in two games, to give the victory to Central.

Once again a 100% committed team performance by Central and for once producing a win they so dearly deserved.

Saturday 30th January 2010
Central 4 - 5 Broadclyst

A typical cup tie was played by 2 teams giving their all to win the match. It was Redstar who started the brightest creating chances from the kickoff however it was Broadclyst who took the lead.

Central responded with Captain George Goodchild forcing the ball over the line to equalise. Broadclyst once again took the lead but a 30 yard drive from Ben Harrill once again equalised for Central.

With the game being played at pace and both teams fully committed it was Broadclyst who again took the lead and by half time had a 4 2 lead.

Changes were made to the Central line up at half time and to their immense credit Central got themselves by on level terms with goals from Alex Green and Harry Mcrea Smith, setting up a very exciting final run in to the end of the game.

With extra time fast approaching it was Central who were looking the strongest but a breakaway goal from Broadclyst proved to be the winning goal of the game, sending them through to 3rd round.

Alex Green 2nd have appearance for Central helped create a much improved performance by Central so Alex Green was given the man of the match award.

Saturday 23rd January 2010
Central 1 - 1 Feniton

In the first game of 2010 two well matched teams produced a very entertaining competitive game of football.

The first half saw a lot of 100% commit ant from both sides with the majority of the play being played in the middle of the pitch, we both teams finding it hard to create clear goal scoring opportunities.

The only goal of the half game from a free kick to Fention, who whipped the ball into the area which caused confusion in the Redstat defence and somehow the ball ended up in the back of net.

The second half saw Central begin to create a lot more chances on the Feniton goal and they were reward with Jacob Carah scoring the equaliser.

The game then saw both sides pushing for the win but it was Central who came closest with a last minutes shot from James Slater rebounding back from the underside of the crossbar and the follow being hit wide by Mat Loake.

The Central man of the match was Joe Moran who produced a power house performance in the heart of the defence.

Saturday 12th December 2009
Central 0 - 7 Alphington

A first half full of under par performances and individual mistakes set the tone a poor Central display added to fact that Central were missing a number of key players credit should be given to Alphington in taking full advantage.

At half time Central were 3 0 down but despite letting in another 4 goals in the 2nd half their overall play was a huge improvement than the first half with good performances from James Slater and man of the match Luke Dracup-Slee.

The key thing is for Central to re group and prepare the next Match against League leaders Tiverton Town.

Saturday 28th November 2009
St Martins 10 - 1 Central Redstar

After 20 minutes one team had created 5 or 6 well worked guilt opportunities to score the other had created 2 and one of them was a long distance hopeful shot. But it was St Martins who scored their 2 chances and Central Redstar were left to count their early miss's.

The performance of Central in the first half deserved a greater reward than the 3 0 down they found themselves at half time.
There were some excellent passages of play creating numerous chances for the lively front line of Central lead by the ever dangerous Ben Harrill but Central just could not score!

The second half saw Central finally score with Ben Harrill finishing sharply into the corner of net, however St Martins scored freely with a demolished Central using its shape not helped by its managers shuffling his subs and in turn playing people out of position a mistake he won't make again!

The game was played on the "Rubber Crum" pitch at Exeter University which although played well was not like the real thing, however this week the white shirts of Central were not covered in mud a relief to many of the parents.

Central's man of the Match was Luke Dracup Slee who playing only for the second time in the heart of defence played a faultless game.

Saturday 21/11/2009
Central 3 - 8 St Martins

On wind sweat and rain sodden day Central entertained a well organised St Martins team with the Central line up reduce to just 9 players! due to illness and holidays.

However the 9 Central Players gave an excellent 100% committed performance and never gave up despite the being heavily out numbered by a St martins team who used all their 5 subs on a roll of roll on strategy throughout the game helping to keep their team fresh in the very difficult conditions.

Central held out for 20mins before St Martins managed to score their first goal, with their 2nd coming soon after but an excellent goal from Jacob Carah pulled the score back to 1 2 but by half time with the wind in their backs St Martins had pulled away to 1 5 lead.

The second half with the wind now behind their backs Central somehow managed to raise their game and scored two brilliant goals both by Harry Mcrea Smith, the first a 25 yard dipping shot into the top of the net the second an excellent lob over the on rushing keeper.

St Martins ran out winners 3 8 but all of the nine Central players deserved great credit for their great commitment and attitude and both teams for playing game in a great spirit despite the conditions.

The Man of the Match was the entire Central Redstar team.

Saturday 7th November 2009
Tedburn 2 - 3 Central

Central Redstar celebrated their first win of the season in a very enjoyable game against a hard working Tedburn team strengthen by their recent signings from Crediton.

Harry Mcrea-Smith scored Centrals first girl with a well placed shot into the bottom corner of the net. With Central mostly dominating the fist half Tedburn were always a threat with there huge centre forward ensuring that Central's centre half partnership had to be on the top of their game to keep him out.

Central's second goal was the best of the season todate with a 25yard screamer free kick from Ben Harrill leaving the Tedburn goalkeeper stranded to the spot.

The second half became a very tense watch with Tedburn showing great spirit in working their way back into the game. It was Central who had the first opportunity to score when Harry Mcrea-Smith on another speedy run into the area was up ended by the on the on rushing Tedburn keeper how ever the penalty was missed!

Tedburn then scored their first goal which made the game for the rest of match a very tense affair with both sides trying to score.

After another strong shot from Ben Harrill this time saved pushed out by the keeper Mark Hattersly reacted quickest to fire the ball into the net to make the score 3-1. Once again Tedburn never gave up and responded by scoring a 2nd goal to make the last 5 minutes a very tense period for all concerned.

Central held on to win their first game. James Henson who had his best game of the season in the hart of the defence was the man of the match but all Central players were excellent.

Saturday 31st October 2009
Central 1 - 5 Sidmouth

Central entertained a Sidmouth team full of new players compared to last season and there additions made them to strong for Central team who have now played together for many years.

Central almost scored in the first minute with a pre planned move from the centre which ended with James Deshapland nearly scoring.

Despite good periods of Central play in the first half Sidmouth went into a 4 0 lead before Central rallied and James Slater pulled a goal back to finish the first half 1 4 down.

The second half was a much tighter affair with Central enjoying more of the game and highlighting their great team spirit despite to date not tasting victory on the league.

Sidmouth were restricted to just one further goal to finish 1 5 victors.

Mark Hattersly was Centrals man of the match showing a great composure in an unfamiliar role of centre back.

It is true by replacing nearly half the team Sidmouth are a stronger team this season but if all teams were only to go out and find the strongest players there would be a number of dissapointed players lost to game for ever that is why I am so proud of my players becasue despite not winning to date they always give 100% and that will hold them well in life.

Saturday 17th October 2009
Central 3 - 3 Broadclyst

This game was full of end to end football with both teams creating numerous goal scoring chances.

It was Central who took the lead with well stroke goal from Ben Harrill. Broadclyst kept attacking the Redstar goal but go not the ball in the nett and Harry Mcrea Smith terrorising the Broadclyst defence with his great speed,i t was Central who went 2-0 up with Jacob Carah scoring his second penalty of he season after being brought down himself after good foot work in the box.

The second half saw Broadclyst storm back into the game to reduce the score to 2-1 and then with another excellent run from Harry Mcrea Smith finished with a powerful low cross James Slater stretched and the ball went over the bar. this was to be a crucial incident with BroadClyst scoring 2 quick goals to take 2-3 lead in the game.

It was then Broadclyst who earned a penalty but the shot flew pass the post, this fired up the tiring Central team for one more effort and it was top score Ben Harrill who scored his second goal of the game to bring
the game level at 3-3 which ended up being the final score.

This game was played in an excellent spirit with both teams giving 100%.

Harry Mrea Smith was Cental's Man of the Match

Saturday 19th September 2009
Alphington 2 - 2 Central Redstar

Central earned their 1st point of the season with a well achieved 2-2 draw with Alphington in brilliant sunshine on pitch far to small in width for 22 under 15 year olds to playon!!

The first half saw 2 well matched teams each create chances to score but it was Alphington who held a 1 0 lead at half time.

The second half saw Ben Harrill equalise for Central but again Alphington took the lead and with both sides finding it hard in the hot conditions it was Central who finished the strongest and in the last minute James Slater bundled the ball into the net the seal the draw, which both managers agred was a fair result.

Joe Moran who had powerful and dominant game in the heart of the Central defence was Redstars man of the match.

Saturday 12th September 2009
Central Redstar 2 - 7 Pinhoe Spitfires

Under 2 weeks ago in a preseason friendly between these 2 sides Pinhoe coasted to a 9 0 win so with both sides now facing each other in the first game of the season in front of the Centrals new shirt sponsor Projexe Engineering and at least 30 supporters both teams played the game in a great spirit and produced an exciting game much closer than the previous game..

Central showed no fear of their opposition and battled hard throughout the first half and took the lead from their man of the match Jacob Carah who smashed home a penalty to put Central into a shock lead. Pinhoe had created numerous chances but a combination of last ditch defending, glaring misses and some excellent goalkeeping from Howard Parker Central kept them a bay until finally the pressure paid off and an equaliser was scored. Instead of crumbling Central continued to battle and once an again took the lead through an inch perfect shot by James Slater. At half time Central had managed to hold their lead over one of the league favourites.

The second half through a serious of ill timed injuries and a lack of stamina Central could not reproduce their first half performance and Pinhoe ran out 7 2 winners.

Central can take great credit from their 1st half performance for the rest of the season, well done to every Central Player.
