Central F.C. History

For many years groups of lads and dads from Central First & Middle Schools (now St Leonard's Primary) met up on a Saturday morning to play football on the nearby School for the Deaf's playing field.

Then in 1994 with Graham Wallace running it with the dads that came along, Central Football Club was born. In the September of that year Neil Parsley started helping and at the end of the first season during which we played just friendly games the numbers of young people grew from 6 to 30. Alan Burnage took over the fitness side and Bill Porter joined the club, by the end of third season the numbers had swollen to 100. The Club soon grew too big for one pitch and hired pitches at King George V - a couple of miles along Topsham Road.

The Club has grown under the Chairmanships of Neil Parsley, Nick Day, Margaret Turner and current Chair Nigel Parker (who took over in September 2003) and they have been supported by Secretaries Bill Porter, Alan Sweet and Steve McShane (who started in Summer 2007). The club has also been well supported by Treasurers with Jackie Braddick being the current one.

At the start of the 2007/8 season we had over 200 young people at the club, entered five teams in the Juventus League and nine teams in the five age groups of the Sainsbury's Exeter Friendly Competition. Our Managers and Coaches had the required Football Association Qualifications (or waiting to go these courses). For a number of years the club did run a senior Women's team that played in the South West Women's League and was very successful.

In the season 2002/03 then Under 10 player Ed Hammond designed the Club Crest which adorns most of our shirts, stationery and these pages. The following season this website was designed by Shaun Carter, made live by Dave Knightly and updated by Secretary Alan Sweet. Shaun Carter took over the updating in the Summer of 2007.

The Club has contacts with Clyst Valley Football Club with the aim of the Under 16S going on to play as Clyst Valley Central. In 2007/08 three members of our previous seasons successful Under 16 team moved into the Clyst Valley Squad.

The Club has had many successes over the years (the most recent of which can be found in the the trophy Cabinet link), but we at Central find it more rewarding to see the smiles on the faces of our players. We try at all times to play in the spirit of the game which ties in nicely with the Club's Mission Statement.
